World Series Recap, By Skyhawks

Apr 26th 2021 By Alexandria Country Yankees

Season 96 is over, and the Eugene Spitters are the champs. They came back down 2-0 against the Kansas City Flying Squirrels and won it in 5 games. Now, I will recap the series for you.

The Spitters, formed in Season 28, had already won a championship in Season 92, sweeping the Baltimore Orioles, who were the Season 95 champs. In the regular season, they went 50-10, good enough for 4th in the world. They swept through the Norfolk Destroyers and the Helena Jaguars before coming back against the Jersey City SPARKY to secure the Beta Compass league title. In the World Playoffs, they beat the Desert Gold champion Arlington Sharks before getting a bye and defeating the Alta Canyon champion Grand Prairie Lightning in the semis.

The Flying Squirrels, formed in Season 92, could have been one of the newest teams to win a WS, but they missed out. They went 47-13 to go 10th in the world. They swept their way to the World Series, winning every playoff game before Game 3. Their first victims were the Colorado Springs Cougars, then the Lexington RED ONIONS, and finally the New York Mets to seal the Theta Premier title. In the World Playoffs, they beat the Anchorage polarbears, the Garden Grove GOLFWANG, and the New Orleans Pineapples in the semis.

Game 1: Flying Squirrels 11, Spitters 4: Game 1 saw the Squirrels take a first-inning lead they wouldn’t lose, as Lawrence Moyer hit a 2-run bomb. Trace Schuster hit a solo bomb in the bottom of the first to cut the lead in half, but a 3-run shot in the third from Deon Monk made it 5-1 Squirrels. In the fourth, Wesley Westfall hit a solo shot and Vincent Coble had an RBI double to make it 7-1. Dominic Haskell hit an RBI single for the Spitters’ second run and Schuster hit his second dinger of the game to make it 7-4, but the Squirrels attacked again, this time with a monster 3-run bomb from Guy Broadnax. They added one more in the ninth on a Moyer triple, and the Squirrels took a 1-0 lead.

Game 2: Flying Squirrels 6, Spitters 3: In Game 2, the Squirrels had some more first-inning bombs, this time from Monk and Frankie Rushing. The red-hot Schuster hit his third dinger of the series to make it 3-2, but Broadnax made it 5-2 with a 2-run shot of his own. Camren Berube tripled in a run to make it 5-3, but the Squirrels answered with an RBI single from Moyer. 2-0 Squirrels.

Game 3: Spitters 3, Flying Squirrels 2: Starters Lisandro Nava and Kendrick Weller both had good outings, each giving up 2 runs over 8 and 7 innings, respectively. Adrian Moll hit a 2-run bomb in the second to put the Spitters up 2-0. Gunnar Dawson would answer with a solo bomb, cutting the lead in half. In the ninth, Honor Abrego hit a clutch home run to give the Spitters the insurance run they needed, as Monk would hit a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to one. The Spitters weren’t done just yet. 2-1.

Game 4: Spitters 7, Flying Squirrels 3: Yet again, the Squirrels took a first-inning lead, on an RBI single from Dawson and a sac fly from Moyer. Gordon Upshaw homered to make it 2-1, and Gunner Oneil tied it up in the third with another solo jack. In the fourth, Oneil delivered again, this time with a 3-run triple. Moyer homered to make it 5-3, but the Spitters added 2 more on solo shots from Haskell and Quinten Badillo. The series was tied at 2 apiece, which meant we were going to Game 5.

Game 5: Spitters 5, Flying Squirrels 3: This was an exciting one, as Phoenix Beard and Blake Dominguez homered in the first two innings to make it 2-0 Spitters. However, over the 4th, 5th, and 6th, the Squirrels slowly took the lead on an RBI single from Josh Morrison, a solo shot from Monk, and an RBI double from Westfall. In the seventh, Beard homered again, tying the game. Finally, in the eighth, Moll and Haskell both had RBI singles to give the Spitters the victory.

I hope you guys liked this article, it’s my first one. Comment any complaints you might have. If there aren’t many, I might keep doing these recaps.
