The 40-120 Mets Play Again
Arising from the trash heap, the 1962 New York Mets live again on Franchise Ball in Season 120. The Marvols took advantage of the new Executive Membership to bring Elio Chacon, Felix Mantilla, Marvelous Marv Throneberry and others back onto the digital diamond.
The Mets debuted as a franchise in 1962 and fielded one of the worst teams in major league history. They finished 60½ games behind league champion San Francisco Giants. Their opening day lineup included Richie Ashburn in CF, Gil Hodges at 1B and Don Zimmer at 3B. Roger Craig was the opening day pitcher, and finished the season with a 10-24 record.
The Marvols’ 1962 Mets reincarnate will also feature 71 year-old manager Casey Stengel, who was quoted as saying: "I've been in this game a hundred years, but I see new ways to lose I never knew existed before."
The season also featured two Mets’ legends: Marvelous Marv Throneberry’s fielding set a new standard for futility and 17 year-old Ed Kranepool get his first ABs.
That team may have been terrible, but they get a chance to do better on Franchise Ball!
