Highlights #1 (May 5th-10th)
Stats are as of May 11th at 9 pm

Stamford Demo Yankees (23-9) @ Philadelphia FISH TOWN (23-9)

This was a very important game, with the 2 teams involved tied for 1st in the super competitive Beta Compass South. FISH TOWN was coming off a win against the Cincinnati Lancers and thanks to their insane offense, did have a 15 run advantage over their 1st place counterparts, the Yankees and the Detroit Stars. Each team was bringing out their ace, with Calvino Velazquez for FISH TOWN and Miguel Gallardo (career ERA of 3.34) for the Yanks. Each team scored early, and it was tied at 2 through 3 innings. A 3-run homer from star 1B Stuart Golden (.264, 16 HRs) put the Yankees on top, but Philadelphia immediately responded, in the form of a 2 run shot from their own 1B, Jerardo Brito. Stamford rallied in the 6th, and went up by 3, which was instantly shortened to 2 after a solo homer from Gabrio Frias. Emmett Blankenship got the Yanks down in order in the 8th, and it was time for the FISH TOWN order to go to work.  Harrison Malloy (.328, 9 HRs) and Brito got it started with 2 straight singles, and Frias tied it with a 2 run triple. Gallardo was tiring, and a small mistake against Dantel Mora (.412, 13 HRs) could mean disaster. Mora knocked in his 31st run of the season, and the FISH TOWN took home a 8-7 win.

MVP: Gabrio Frias: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 3B, 3 RBIs

Milwaukee Militia (15-17) @ Jersey City SPARKY (20-12)

The basement Militia traveled to Jersey to face the 4th place SPARKY in another divisional matchup from Beta South. This one did not disappoint. Milwaukee went up 1-0 early, but the SPARKY countered with a 2 run homer from star LF Brett Staggs (.316, 12 HRs) and then scored 2 more in the 6th. Up 4-1, and with Darwin Summers (3-1, 2.31 ERA) cruising through the Milwaukee lineup, there was no reason for concern. However, after Jersey brought in the struggling Abel England (7-6, 4.77 ERA) to close out the 9th, Milwaukee jumped him for 3 runs. A solo homer, single, then a two run shot from Zachery Lang (.295, 9 HRs) tied it at 4 and we were headed to extras. Despite the 9th inning drama, this one would end with little fanfare, as a solo shot from vet Lisandro Rigby handed the SPARKY a 5-4 win, a much needed victory to keep up with the top dawgs from the South.

MVP: Brett Staggs: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBIs

Milwaukee Lightning Badger (20-12) @ San Diego Bombers (28-4)

While the Badgers have not been online often due to real life activities, their team still packs a punch, and this matchup against the Bombers might be considered one of the best of the season. Arnoldo Quinones (.306, 10 HRs) got the Badgers started with a 2 run blast, but the Bombers responded with a 2 run homer from Lewis Hermann and a 3 run shot from All-Star leadoff man Dante Cerda (.327, 6 HRs). Up 5-2 in the 8th, Bombers fans felt relatively safe. When Bombers manager brought in star reliever Darius Kuhn (.138 BAA), they felt even better. Even though the Badgers got a run back in the 8th, the Bombers held a 2 run lead into the 9th. It wouldn’t last. Veteran C Kyler Lerner hit his 150th career homer, and it was tied at 5. Future HOFer Johnny Staples came in to shut down the Bombers, but the 37 year old just couldn’t do it. Hermann (.360, 10 HRs) came through with his 2nd homer of the game, and the Bombers defeated their division rivals, 6-5.

MVP: Lewis Hermann: 2-4, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs

Atlanta THE DUKES (22-10) @ Seattle Marvols (24-8)
With both of these teams in the cutthroat Epsilon Southeast, every game means something, and this one was no exception. The DUKES struck first, but the score was tied at 2 after 4 innings. Atlanta took the lead in the 7th, off of a solo homer from Florinio Cabrera (.311, 11 HRs), but Seattle responded with a homer from RF Nikolas Capps. Neither team scored in the 8th, but a triple from Humberto Meier (.327, 6 HRs) followed by a single from Alonso Banda gave THE DUKES the lead. The Marvols picked up a leadoff single off of Kadin Kohl, but Atlanta brought in veteran Alijah Anaya (69-30, 3.77 ERA on his career) to close Seattle out, and he did, striking out 2 in the 4-3 win.

MVP: Humberto Meier: 2-3, 2 3B, 1 BB

Seattle Cyclones (23-9) @ Colorado Springs Tacoma Time Warp (20-12)

When Seattle traveled to Colorado to take on the Time Warp, it was anticipated as a test for the home team, and maybe it was the 26,344 fans, or just the rocky mountain air, but this game went 21 innings. The game was tied 2-2 after 3, and after a Travis Sisson (.335, 11 HRs) homer, the Cyclones inched ahead. However, Tacoma would go on to score 3 runs against Seattle’s struggling prospect Elliot Crouch (0-4, 5.91 ERA) to take a 5-3 lead into the 7th. A homer from Seattle’s red hot 1B Eneas Frias and another RBI from Sisson tied it back up. But once more, Tacoma took the lead in the 8th with another homer. Tacoma’s star closer Alexandro Atchison (6 Svs, 1.80 ERA) took the mound, and promptly gave up a game-tying solo shot to Mariano Lea. The game continued with no runs scored until the 19th, when each team scored 1 run. However, Seattle would take home the win after solo shots from Ramon Archer and Eneas Frias (.367, 11 HRs) gave them a 10-8 lead.

MVP: Feo Sanabria: 11 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 8 K and Eneas Frias: 4-9, 4 HRs, 4 RBIs

Erie Spartans (24-8) @ Las Vegas Raiders (15-17)

In the midst of a 8 game win streak, the Spartans were very hot, and while the Raiders were struggling, they were coming off of strong wins over Moneyball and Black Knights. In this one, the Raiders came out hot, scoring 7 off of Spartan starter Triston Schweitzer, and despite giving up 4 to Erie, responded with 3 more of their own to go up 10-4. Veteran Nehemiah Montague (62-29, 4.25 career ERA) held the Spartans down through 6, but a flurry of hits and a 2 run homer from Dominique Worthy (.285, 11 HRs) tied it up at 10. The Raiders did take back the lead on a RBI single from Marco Back, but Montague was too tired and after tying it in the 9th, the Spartans went on to take home a 12-11 win.

MVP: Anselmo Briones: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 8 K

New York Mets99 @ Manchester Maniacs

Sumner Scapegoats (21-11) @ Boston Red Sox 1 (27-5)

When too great teams face off, it is always a fun spectacle to see, and nearly 60,000 fans traveled to Boston to see their team take on the Scapegoats. Jovani Finnegan got the Sox started in the 1st, but the Scapegoats responded with a 2-run single from Cameron Benefield (.305, 2 HRs) to take a 2-1 lead. The Sox battled back, scoring 3 in the 4th thanks to RBI singles from star hitters Luke Banda and Chaim Le. Though the Scapegoats cut the deficit to 1 in the top of the 5th, the lead immediately ballooned to 2 after another homer from Finnegan (.299, 9 HRs). However, Sumner continued to rally off of Boston starter, Jamir Bronson, and tied it in the 7th thanks to an RBI single from red-hot CF Carlton Ybarra (.406, 9 HRs). Both pitchers were tired, but it was the Sumner Scapegoats aggressive base-running that gave them the win. Leadoff man Carlos Ortiz singled and stole 2nd, paving the way for an RBI single from Bartoli Zepeda.

Corpus Christi Hooks (20-12) @ Kansas City Royals0 (20-12)

With both the Hooks and the Royals0 stuck in fierce division battles, each team knew that every game was crucial. With 2 great pitchers, Ezequiel Love (Hooks, 4-2, 1.29 ERA) and pitcher of the year Brennan Mills (Royals0, 5-1, 3.50 ERA) facing off, the game was expected to be low scoring, and indeed it was. Royals struggling catcher Mateo Berrios (.214, 5 HRs) got things started with his 5th homer, but the Hooks responded with a homer of their own in the 5th, this one thanks to 41 YO DH Matthew Fields (.200, 3 HRs). The Hooks then took the lead in the 9th on another homer, but a clutch sac fly from former Codfish Galtero Adorno (.262, 6 HRs). Despite Love’s dominance throughout the beginning of the game, his 76 STA came into play, and the Royals0 were able to finish him off in the 11th on a walkoff homer from Kameron Fernandez.

MVP: Brennan Mills: 11 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 15 K
HM New York Mets @ Ontario Girl Power Mets 37, Girl Power 0 MVP: The whole team combined for 21 run in the 8th inning, hit 7 homers
