We now take a look at the 2 best players in each league, 1 hitter and 1 pitcher. Stats are as of 9:00 game Thursday.

EPSILON PEAK

Frederico Matias, 3B, New Orleans Cotton Pickers- This guy hadn’t been in the majors since 84. The 33-year old 89-95-49-91 still seems sharp, though, hitting .442 with 8 HRs, 20 RBIs, and a 1.478 OPS. This has no resemblance to a .250 season in 84 with 9 homers, but rather his Season 82 .349 AVG with 22 HR and 55 RBIs. What a turnaround for the old pro.

Mason Newcomb, P, Alexandria Yankees- It can seem like bragging, but Newcomb, picked up from the Portland Venom, was rewarded with a 4-season contract after his bona fide Season 89. He seems to have been motivated by it, as he is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 15 Ks in 17 innings. His WHIP is pretty good too, standing at an imposing 0.588, and is 2-7 with a 2-run homer this season. Venom probably wishes he didn’t release him.

ALPHA RUBY

Dominique Worthy, SS, San Jose Panthers- The 93-93-83-99 21-year old somehow hit just .208 between the Clearwater Currents and Kansas City KCKC in his first 2 seasons. He seems to have found his stride (coinciding with him being allowed to drink alcohol), hitting .446 with 5 HRs, 11 SB, 16 RBIs, and a 1.350 OPS. The best thing is that this guy has 20 more years left in him.

Trever Carper, P, Des Moines Iowa Cubs- At 79-85-83-97, this 22-year old is nothing short of a fluke. Nevertheless, he is the hottest pitcher in Alpha Ruby, so I have to include him. After throwing 3 complete game shutouts, he is 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA to go with 31 Ks to 1 walk in 27 innings and a 0.37 WHIP. He was solid last season, going 3-3 with a 3.12 ERA with this inactive team.

BETA COMPASS

Kameron Derosa, CF, Stamford Demo Yankees- This 29-year old 83-96-93-83 hitter has had 6 average seasons up to this point, but has broken out, hitting .439 with 6 HR, 10 RBI, 5 SB, and a 1.439 OPS. As the Demo Yankees’  young hope, let us hope that he delivers for them.

Nathan Mount, P, Erie Spartans- Mount, an 81-99-95-76 pitcher, flashed potential in his rookie season with the Hamilton Bigmuffs, going 8-5 with a 4.76 ERA and 20 Ks in 121 IP, but has adjusted this year, going 2-0 with 15 Ks and 1 BB in 18 innings, with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.667 WHIP. The sky appears to be the limit for this 27-year old.

OCEAN STAR

Jayden Faber, CF, Baseball25- This 32-year old, at 76-98-80-73, hit .288 in 1652 ABs over 7 seasons before he broke out this season. So far, he is hitting .481 with 5 HRs, 13 RBIs, and a 1.342 OPS. This CF, once average, is now on the brink of stardom.

Blaine Bellamy, P, Calgary Fire Birds- Bellamy, a 32-year old 70-, has been dominant in his first 10 seasons, going 48-13 with a 3.44 ERA. This year he is turning in another great performance, as he is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA through 16 innings. He has 15 Ks to 1 BB and has a foreboding 0.625 WHIP. Though the Fire Birds are off to a slow start, this guy is not.

DELTA PREMIER

Ariel Funderbunk, SS, Asdffffffffffffff- What a weird name for a team (and a player). This guy is a fluke (88-88-64-77), but he’s the 2nd best in the world, so I am forced to include him. He is hitting .404 with 5 HRs, 17 RBIs, and a 1.186 OPS. It’s amazing for a rookie season, but he’ll cool off.

Jamari Horn, P, Kure Kantai: A deserving 27-year old 84-97-94-81 starter, he has had a dominating career, going 44-18 with a 3.59 ERA and 1 save in 7 seasons. This year, he is 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 0.704 WHIP, with 28 Ks and 2 BBs in 27 innings. At $600,000, he seems like a bargain.

THETA PREMIER

Ronald Place, 2B, Philadelphia Prbadapples: Another fluke, as he is a 28-year old 87-88-81-73 hitter, but currently, he is hitting .473 with 4 HRs, 14 RBIs, and a 1.355 OPS after not playing since Season 85. He appears well rested and ready to perform again.

Chaim Nemeth, P, Shreveport Captains: The Captains seem to be a relative unknown but  at 10-3 are quite good, thanks to this 27-year old 87-98-89-99 pitcher, who is the closest I’ve seen to a quadruple 90. So far, he is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA, a 0.899 WHIP, and 25 Ks in 27 innings. He has had a stellar career to date, going 41-16 with a 3.50 ERA with the Buffalo Bisons, Windsor Wind Surge, and the Captains.

ALTA CANYON

Nathan Maynard, LF, Columbus Storm: Maynard, who hit .299 in his debut last year, has broken out. The 28-year old 88-97-49-80 hitter boasts a .519 AVG with 11 HRs, 18 RBIs, and a 1.731 OPS. He also looks AND plays great every day. He is being paid the minimum ($300,000) but performing to the maximum.

Fabian Carnes, P, Seattle Cyclones: Carnes is a talented double 100, at 69-95-100-100, and is just 22. Last season, he was a flop, going 1-3 with a 5.75 ERA. Thankfully for him, he now knows how to pitch again, and is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA, 25 Ks in 20 innings, and a 0.75 WHIP. If this is just a flash of things to come, then hitters need to look out. He is easily the best example right now of why you should participate in the draft.

COPPER SPRING

Muhammad Jessup, 2B, Minneapolis Ducks- This 25-year old 79-91-86-75 hit an even .300 in his rookie campaign with this inactive team. Now, he is doing even better, hitting .471 with 8 HRs, 17 RBIs, and a 1.571 OPS. He will probably be a career .290 hitter, but we’ll let him enjoy his 15 minutes of fame right now.

Cornelio Ramos, P, Lubbock Lancers: Ramos, at 85-94-82-82, is a very balanced 24-year old. It would seem impossible to improve upon a 2-1, 1.39 ERA rookie season, yet he has! This season, he is 3-0 with a 1.61 ERA, 22 Ks in 28 innings, and a sensational 0.643 WHIP. He is the best example of the young talent there is in Copper Spring.

MOON VALLEY

Yes, this is a new league, and every team has played 4 games or less.

Chan Mata, SS, New York Knicks: Mata, a 21-year old 83-83-72-80, has been nothing short of spectacular, hitting .471 with 2 HRs, 7 RBIs, and a 1.588 OPS through 4 games. He may never get a chance like this again, but he is doing his best to ensure job security.

Gian Avalos, P, Buffalo Yankees: Avalos, also a rookie, is 22 and has scout ratings of 84-83-61-96, also has a solid career in the future. For now, though, he is toiling for $300,000 and debuted against the now-dead Baltimore Robots, throwing a complete game shutout, striking out 9 with no walks and allowing 10 hits. He was also 0-2 with a walk.
